Santa Cruz Beer
Over the last few decades, Santa Cruz breweries have continued to grow, in fact, I am writing this at NuBo Brewery at 41st and Gladys. People, kids, dogs, and leisure time. Not everyone surfs, bikes, bowls, or even drinks beer, but most everyone likes to hang out. Beer drinking is not required and, not allowed for kids or dogs. Family-friendly, comfy, and people talk with each other.
Local Brewery NuBo
I met Brew Master Dan Satterthwaite while walking down the street asking him “When is the brewery going to open?”. Can’t ignore commercial brewing equipment being installed within a 10 min walk from home. Just moved back from 9 years in Utah and worked for Utah DABC. Turns out Dan knew all of the same beer people that I knew and he is kind of famous. The upstairs has two balcony areas, a large slab community table, other indoor seating, and another serving bar for when it is busy. You can have special events and meetings as well. During the Dam-Demic he added a beer garden with heaters.
Out and About
Group outings, Santa Crawls, after beach, bike, or work. Visitors may want to see what’s up and there is always after “the sweat” time. Large and small tap rooms / pour houses stock local favorites with special releases. The long history of deep relationships gets “the good stuff” trucked into town or very limited batches. There are Beer MeetUp groups, Face Book Pages, and Guided tours, they drive you for safety and know all the secret spots There are many “beer places” from The West Side through Corralitos, and enjoy your 831 Local Beer Style. YARD PARTY with local kegs, bands, and your favorite people and may need a filling station or just a break from the sun. Shade can be set up with Quictent in many shapes and sizes. Jackery Company has great battery charging equipment with optional solar panels.
Just a Few More
If you are Local Beer Geeky, you already know about the S.A.R.A. portal and it is on my list. Red beans, rice, ham hocks, and a great beer. One round of that and happy full belly for hours. If you are staying in The Village there is a tasting room offering a non-advertised 22oz deal and at any time they have a Great Firkin deal, the last Tue. of the month. On the inland side of HWY 1 in Soquel, there is a place that has THE BEST afternoon sun with a very large beer selection. 30 rotating taps, about 20′ x 8′ cold case, and another pantry, maybe 15′ long floor to ceiling. You can bring snacks or order to-go food from 3 restaurants nearby, dogs and kids are welcome. Yes, there is another VERY SUNNY SPOT by Watsonville Airport, food, fun, and games abound. Down Town on Cathcart, Lupulo Craft Beer House has grown over the past few years and always has great beer and a fun scene.
If you are a well seasoned beer enthusiast like me, you will benefit from ATG Equipment for home gym training. In 2019 I was having a hard time walking down stairs and I found Ben Patrick on a Joe Rogan interview. I did ben’s simple exercises, and they 100% worked.
